DIRECTOR OF EU PUBLIC AFFAIRS (CONSULTANT)

f/m, Brussels-based

Founded in 2009, the European Technology & Travel Services Association (ETTSA) represents and promotes the interests of the travel technology sector, towards policy makers, industry stakeholders, consumer groups and the media. ETTSA advocates for market access and fair  competition, transparency, and the enabling of innovation across the travel distribution chain. ETTSA’s members include Amadeus, edreams Odigeo, Expedia, Lastminute.com Group, Sabre, Travelport, Skyscanner and Tripadvisor. Its strategic partners are OAG, HitRail, e-Travel, etraveli, Travelgenio, Travix and Tripsta.

To reinforce its growing Brussels team, ETTSA is seeking to recruit a Director of EU Public Affairs (f/m) on a full-time equivalent consultant basis.

Description of the role:

  • Independently, with guidance from the Secretary General, manage a portfolio of EU policy issues: closely monitor relevant policy developments, identify issues of concern to the membership, build strategies for addressing them, develop common industry positions with member input, engage with EU institutions, other stakeholders and consumer groups, and regularly brief members on progress.
  • With support from the Secretary General and thereafter independently, maintain regular informal contact with key stakeholders in the EU institutions and industry to obtain advance intelligence in order to anticipate political and policy trends and developments of relevance to our sector. Build a robust own network of relevant contacts
  • Following a training period, act as ETTSA’s spokesperson on select issues. Attend policy and industry conferences and speak publicly on behalf of ETTSA, in line with the association’s agreed principles and positions.
  • Support the Secretary General in daily management and financial planning.
  • The role reports to the Secretary General, but involves regular direct and independent contact with the Board and other representatives of the Member companies.  

Candidate specification

  • The successful candidate will: 
  • Have 5 to 8 years of experience working in EU/European public affairs or equivalent;
  • Have a good working knowledge of EU law, EU policy, the EU decision-making process, and economics;
  • Have a good understanding of relevant EU policies including digital, consumer, internal market and transport;
  • Be fluent in English, both written and oral, with working knowledge of other European languages a definite asset;
  • Have outstanding oral and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Have experience working with a group of stakeholders, finding common ground, brokering compromises, developing, articulating and presenting agreed common positions;
  • Be prepared to travel on a regular basis, mostly within Europe and occasionally overseas.
